The USMC's Mullet Hair-in' Budweiser Wearin' Recruit Is Now A Marine

Via Task & Purpose:

The young man’s uncle, who served in the Marines, told T&P that he recommended that his nephew get a short haircut before arriving at boot camp, but the future Marine’s barber persuaded him to go full mullet.

“I told him he was already gonna get f****d with for the haircut in general,” said retired Gunnery Sgt. Mike Voorhees. “They’re gonna call you ‘Joe Dirt’ and ‘Mullet Man.’”

Stepping onto the infamous yellow footprints of Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Recruit Mullet’s solid salad rustled & his Budweiser tank top fluttered gently in the San Diego breeze; a brief moment of peace before they descended. Much like sharks going into a wild frenzy with eyes rolled into the back of their heads, the Drill Instructors blacked out in ecstasy as they spotted him amidst the school of newbies. They circled gleefully, specks of spit erupting from their screaming mouths…

At least that’s how I imagine it went. When I was in boot camp on Parris Island we had a gal with a big, awful Corvette tramp stamp & that was the only thing that took major heat off my heinous shamrock tramp stamp & awkward demeanor (which I still took plenty of shit for). I think DIs could go up against any roast-style comedian & destroy, and this guy gave them all the material they needed from day one. And yet, he has now completed The Crucible & made it through to the other side as a U.S. Marine.

Unable to use cell phones or internet for the full 13 weeks of training, I have to think his family filled him in on his popularity through letters. Either way, it has to be fun for him to see all the posts now. No doubt he’ll enter the fleet with a reputation preceding him. From here on out he’ll have to keep his hair within regs… I hope he manages to keep it business in the front, but still find room for the party.

Congrats & best of luck to him.
